We publish the decisions of the Forty-second Session of the Metropolitan Synod

On December 17-18, 2008, in Lviv-Bryukhovychi took place the Forty-second Session of the Synod of Bishops of the Kyiv and Halych Major Archbishopric of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church. At the session meetings, 17 members of the Metropolitan Synod were present. Today we publish the decisions of this session of the Synod.

DECISIONS

OF THE FORTY-SECOND SESSION OF THE SYNOD OF BISHOPS

OF THE KYIV AND HALYCH MAJOR ARCHBISHOPRIC

OF THE UKRAINIAN GREEK-CATHOLIC CHURCH

Lviv-Bryukhovychi, December 17-18, 2008 A.D.

1. In the context of the celebration of the Year of Vocations 2009 to conduct the following measures at the church-wide level: 
I. Proclamation on January 1 (14), 2009 A.D. , of the Year of Vocations with special accent on priestly vocations;  II. Acknowledgement in prayer on Holy Thursday of the Day of Establishing the Holy Sacrament of the Priesthood; III. Festive proclamation on Bright Saturday, April 25, 2009 A.D. , of Blessed Priest and Martyr Omelyan Kowcz as the patron of pastors of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church;  IV. An all-Ukrainian pilgrimage to Zarvanytsya on July 18-19, 2009 A.D., devoted to priestly vocations.
2. To appoint Reverend Father Pavlo Khud as head of the Metropolitan Commission of Social Communication of the UGCC. 3. To entrust the Metropolitan Commission of Social Communication of the UGCC to work out by the next Metropolitan Synod a detailed plan (road map) for the development of informational activity of our Church in Ukraine.  4. By the end of January 2009 A.D. to work out a program to oppose abortion in Ukraine and submit the program for consideration to the next session of the Metropolitan Synod.  5. To confirm the text of an address in relation to the present socioeconomic situation in Ukraine and the world. 6. For the improvement of pastoral ministry for immigrants and migrant workers, to entrust priests of the Kyiv and Halych Major Archbishopric of the UGCC to collect information about those from their parishes who have gone abroad for work and by the end of January to centralize this in their eparchies (exarchates).  7. To include in the litany of Liturgies on the Day of the Migrant the following request: “Again we pray for our brothers and sisters who through necessity left Ukraine and for their families.” 8. To conduct a festive proclamation of Blessed Priest and Martyr Omelyan Kowcz as the patron of pastors of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in Kyiv on Bright Saturday, April 25, 2009 A.D.  9. To support a two-year choir directors’ program at the Institute of Liturgical Studies of the Ukrainian Catholic University. 10. To conduct the Forty-third Session of the Synod of Bishops of the Kyiv and Halych Major Archbishopric of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church in February 2009 A.D.

These decisions come into effect on December 30, 2008 A.D.
