In crisis situations, I seek the advice of wise people who may know better this or that area of human knowledge. One should never think that we are all-knowing and omnipotent, that we will always be able to help ourselves on our own. Such self-confidence is the first step toward falling. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC, who was celebrating his 51st birthday on May 5, told this in an interview with Ukrayinska Pravda.

Answering questions about doubts and crises of faith, the Head of the Church said that he never doubted the existence of God and the truths that the Lord reveals.

At the same time, His Beatitude Sviatoslav stated that doubt as such is not a bad thing, because in doubt a person seeks answers to the questions before him.

"Every believer is a person on a journey. Our path of faith is a path to the fullness of the knowledge of God. As the Apostle Paul says, here on earth we see God as in a mirror and are constantly growing to the fullness of Christ. That is why it is normal for a Christian to doubt, to be constantly in dialogue with God and ask Him how to do the right thing,” he said.

The Head of the UGCC said that he experienced various circumstances when he did not understand how to do it right. According to him, new challenges need new answers, and they are not always prepared in advance. Hence, everyone who seeks such answers, he says, experiences a crisis of faith.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav noted that, although word "crisis" has a negative connotation today, in Greek it means a moment where one must look for an answer, make a choice.

The Head of the Church shared that in his case the search for answers to the most recent issues is constant because the decisions he makes concern the whole Church.

In addition to asking for advice, the Head of the UGCC also recalled the examination of conscience - the assessment of one's own actions and decisions - a helpful tool in finding the right answers to the current problems.
