As we reported before, currently the monitoring group of the Patriarch’s Pilgrimage Center of the UGCC is conducting its work. The monitoring group has already succeeded in visiting over 20 pilgrimage places. Specialists continue for the second week to examine shrines of churches, study nearby accommodations and canteens, and meet with deans and senior priests and representatives of local pilgrimage initiatives in the Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk, and Lviv regions. “Despite the difficult weather conditions, we are prepared for active and professional work,” reported the leader of the monitoring group of the Patriarch’s Pilgrimage Center Mr. Dmytro Myronenko. “Both priests and laity render thorough support in the realization of the tasks placed on our group. We see a large interest and activity in the organization of the project. This concerns both the large and small places of pilgrimage.”  The monitoring group has already been acquainted with the pilgrimage objects in Ponomoriany, Chervonohrad, Pidhirtsi, Krekhiv, Sokal, Bryukhovychi, Stradch, and others. Still to be visited are Goshiv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Khodoriv, Zhydachiv, Drohobych, Stryj, and other places of pilgrimage which will be included in the list of the most important routes.  The Patriarch’s Pilgrimage Center is intended to create conditions for the wide realization of pilgrims’ needs for the faithful in Ukraine and from abroad. It is expected that the activity of the center will stimulate the development of modern social and engineering infrastructure of the pilgrimage places, which will allow for the establishment of a closer exchange of pilgrimage information and increase the pilgrims’ currents inside Ukraine as well as liven the cooperation between the Ukrainian and foreign participants of the pilgrimage initiatives. The Patriarch’s Pilgrimage Center of the UGCC of the Patriarchal Curia of the UGCC was created on May 8, 2009, by the decree of Major Archbishop of Kyiv-Halych His Beatitude Lubomyr, considering the initiative of the Patriarchal Society of Saint Prince Volodymyr of Kyiv, Equal-to-the-Apostles, to better organize pilgrimages and better provide for the pilgrim’s spiritual necessities.
