Over the past 20 years, Ukraine made considerable progress in the catechetical ministry: catechetical schools have been established; approximately 1,500 teachers, who received the Catechist Diplomas, work officially, the system of textbooks has been elaborated, etc. And abroad there are a number of nuns who continue to catechize.

The representatives of the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission of the UGCC strive for the achievement of formal structurization of the catechetical education, because children come into the world, not knowing anything about God, and this is a challenge of the modern day. This was stated in an interview with the Information Department of the UGCC by Bishop Petro (Stasiuk), Bishop for Ukrainian Catholics in Australia, New Zealand and Oceania, the Head of the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission of the UGCC.

Bishop Petro shared his views regarding the problems that arise during the catechization of children abroad. Thus, according to him, the greatest challenges are associated with the fact that those parents, who grew up during the Soviet times, did not know catechization. "Modern parents, according to our observations, have other priorities – says the Head of the Commission. - For instance, abroad we are constantly" fighting" with sports, because children play football on Saturday morning or on Sunday. Sometimes, Ukrainian dances, which settlements organize on weekends, appear to be an obstacle. Therefore, parents have to choose between sports, Church and Ukrainian dances".

Finally, Bishop Petro informed about the further plans for the activities of the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission, which consist in the creation of those church organizations abroad, which already exist in the dioceses of the UGCC in Ukraine.
