On May 26, 2018, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav in the village of Kniazhychi (Kyiv Region) opened and consecrated a memorial plaque in honor of the blessed memory His Beatitude Lubomyr on the house where he had lived the last ten years of his life.

Opening the memorial plaque took place within the framework of commemorative events marking the year of departure into eternity of His Beatitude Lubomyr.

During the blessing, the UGCC Primate noted the symbolic nature of this event. "Today is the Saturday before the Descent of the Holy Spirit. And on this day we, Orthodox and Greek Catholics, traditionally observe the day of commemoration of the deceased. I think it is a wonderful God's will to be here today, before celebrating the Feast of Pentecost, near our residence in Knyazhychi," said the Head of the Church.

The Bishop stressed that a decision about this memorial plaque was made neither by the Church, nor by the inhabitants of this house, but the village community of Kniazhychi. And it will be forever a sign of the memory about a great spiritual God’s man, and, as it is written here, about a moral authority of the Ukrainian nation - His Beatitude Lubomyr.

"He lived here for more than ten years. He prayed here. It was such a center, the center of prayer of the Father of the Church for all her children in Ukraine and around the world. Here he communicated with God, like Moses, who went up to Mount Sinai, as Scripture tells us, and spoke with God face to face. That Jewish text says that Moses then was asking for everything that his people, who traveled from Egypt to the Promised Land, from the slavery to freedom, needed. I think those Biblical words may as well describe everything that was happening in this house during the years after His Beatitude moved to Kyiv in 2006 and until his departure into eternity a year ago," said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

The Head of the Church expressed his gratitude to the village chairman Viktor Petrenko and the local deputies to make such a decision.

The Head of the UGCC noticed that the house in Knіazhychі is gradually turning into a memorial center, a kind of living museum that would keep its doors wide open and invite all to visit it.

"His Beatitude Lubomyr wanted his house to be open to all. I think we will step by step arrange his memorial room and open a meeting place here, a place of pilgrimage, a place of prayer together with His Beatitude Lubomyr," said the Primate.

The village chairman, Victor Petrenko, in turn, noted that the opening of the plague is a very important mission of the local authorities. "According to the decision of the Village Council about the awarding of a status of an honorary citizen of the village of Knіazhусhi to His Beatitude Lubomyr, we had one more obligation - to establish a memorial plaque in his honor. I am very pleased to take part in the opening of this memorial plaque because His Beatitude Lubomyr is also part of our village," added the village chairman.
