Upon his arrival, parish priest Rev Yaroslav Riy, along with representatives of the community and faithful from nearby mission points, welcomed Patriarch Sviatoslav with the traditional bread and salt greeting, whilst children from the Ukrainian Saturday School recited a poem in his honour.

Joining His Beatitude Patriarch Sviatoslav at the celebration of the Divine Liturgy was Metropolitan Ihor Voznyak (Archbishop of Lviv), Bishop Hlib Lonchyna, clergy from the Holy Family Eparchy, and retired priest Rev Mykhailo Jakubiak.

During his homily, His Beatitude underlined the role of the Church in the lives of the immigrants who arrived in the UK after the war, and how the Church supported, helped, and healed their traumas. The care and generosity expressed to one another was the foundation of their community and should serve as an example to future generations.

After the Divine Liturgy, a reception was held at the Ukrainian Social Club in honour of His Beatitude’s second visit to Bradford. The first visit occurred in 2011.
