In Kyiv Head of UGCC together with five ministers of Ukraine planted a tree of peace

On November 6 Head and Father of UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav took part in unlimited All-Ukrainian ecological campaign “Plant a tree of peace”, planting a tree in the Alley of peace near the Patriarchal cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ.

The campaign  started with a prayer for peace in Ukraine in the Cathedral.

The event was joined by some officials: Ostap Semerak, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine, Liliya Hrynevych, Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, Pavlo Petrenko, Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Volodymyr Omelyan, Minister of Infrastructure of Ukraine, Ihor Zhdanov, Minister of Youth and Sports of Ukraine, Arseniy Yatsenyuk Prime Minister of Ukraine from 2014 to 2016.

The aim of this campaign is to draw Ukrainians’ attention to tremendous ecological consequences of war on East of Ukraine, irreparable damage caused to the environment, boosting ecological awareness and eco-patriotism.

As to the Major Archbishop, this campaign is held on November 6 – day for preventing the exploitation of the environment in war and armed conflicts. People start to realize that in times of war people are not the ones who suffer, but all God’s creatures suffer too.

“International organizations claim that East of Ukraine belongs to the most contaminated parts of the globe, - emphasized Head of UGCC. – Today we want to plant a tree of peace, heal wounds of Ukraine and care about our home to grow in peace. Hence, peace is cherished in the same way as people care about trees.

Head of UGCC thanked everyone who joined this campaign.

Ostap Semerak, Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Ukraine mentioned that within three years of time alleys of peace have been built in hundreds of cities and towns. This is the joint campaign of UGCC and Ministry of ecology.

“With this kind of movement we attract society’s  attention to socially ecological harmful impact of war at East of Ukraine and call everyone to peace”, said the minister and thanked Head of UGCC for transferring data about the ecological consequences of war in Ukraine to Pope Francis.
