The Head of the UGCC: "Today we pray that the Ukrainian people make the right choice and do not embark on the road to death"

Anyone who wants to build his life in Ukraine without the fear of fleeing it one day, must base their activities only on God's truth. This conviction was expressed by Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav during a sermon to the faithful in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ.

The Primate said that from the early days of Christianity, the Church taught about the two roads that open before man. One is the road to death. It is a rejection of God, His law, the truth. Such a road finally leads to the Necropolis, to the city of the dead. This is a road of hopelessness.

"But he who accepts Christ," says the Head of the Church, "as the source of resurrection and life, walks the path of life and hope. He hopes not only to endure all the difficulties of earthly life, but also to receive eternal life. That is why Christ says: I am the resurrection and the life, I am the way, the truth and the life. Whoever follows the path that Christ leads us will never be in a state of despair. For it is the expectation of eternal life that is the content of the Christian hope."

Sociologists often ask Ukrainians: is our state moving in the right direction? "We as Christians say there are two ways. One way is destruction, corruption, disintegration and, finally, death. And the second is the road of truth, life. It is a road based on God's word. And the signpost that shows this way is God's law,” said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

Today, regular elections to local authorities are taking place in Ukraine. "Before this election," said the preacher, "there was an initiative of our laity. They asked the candidates on what law they build their program ... Obviously, today we pray that the Ukrainian people make the right choice, do not embark on the path of death, do not give our future into the hands of those who will lead us on the path of destruction and hopelessness.”

"Let the basis of our public, socio-political life be the Christian hope, which will help us to endure everything; and the foundation of the law of Ukraine will be God's law. For what is contrary to God's law is, in fact, a road to nowhere. May the merciful Lord hasten to each of us who suffers, who looks into the eyes of death, who experiences a time of despair ... May His life-giving word be the force that will help us move forward,” the Head of the UGCC wished everyone.
