Today we want to recall the events of 50 years ago, when the man of God's power, Patriarch Josyph Slipyj, arrived here to heal the spirit of the Ukrainian community in Chicago and founded the parish of St. Volodymyr and Olha.

This was emphasized by the Father and the Head of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav, in his speech to the faithful on Sunday, November 11, 2018, during the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Church of St. Volodymyr and Olha in Chicago. The same day a jubilee feast also took place in the cultural center of this parish.

"I think that this parish is a symbol of revival, healing and hope, as well as a witness of the resurrection of the Ukrainian Church in the United States. The most important thing is that hope has risen, and Ukrainians, particularly in a free world, have ceased to fear for the future of their Church, their community and their people. Even when the Church was in a state of persecution in its native lands, the light of hope was shone upon our people. Today we want to thank God for our great confessor of faith, the witness of the resurrection and the bearer of God's power, Patriarch Josyf Slipyj," said the spiritual leader of the Greek Catholics.

The Head of the UGCC expressed his deep gratitude to Bishop Venedikt (Aleksiychuk), the Ruling Bishop of the Chicago Diocese, for organizing his visit.

It is worth noting that the Primate thanked all priests for their presence, especially the "veteran" of the parish Fr. Ivan Krots', who has witnessed the formation and development of the parish. In addition, the patriarchal charter was read to Fr. Oleh Kryvokulsky who, together with the parish, celebrates the 50th anniversary of his birth, as well as the 20th anniversary of his priestly ministry.

" I came to you all to greet and thank you from the whole Church for your work, ministry, prayer, and all that you do (possible and impossible) to support the development of our Church," said His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

And he immediately added: "Today's holiday is a holiday not only for this parish, but for our whole Church. I thank you for your faith and sacrifice, especially for the dedication to the Head of the Church and for the development of our patriarchy. So I came to embrace you and thank you warmly."

We would like to add that on November 12, the Head of the Church will visit another parish of the UGCC in Chicago, St. Joseph the Betrothed. Here, at 18:30, the Divine Liturgy will be held.
