A Council of the Lviv Archeparchy of the UGCC on the theme of evangelization will be held

On March 14, 2009, a Sobor [Council] of the Lviv Archeparchy of the UGCC on evangelization will take place. Its theme: «Features of preaching the Gospel in the modern world: Recognition of the signs of the times.» The ruling Archbishop of Lviv, Reverend Ihor (Voznyak), for the preparation of the Council formed a working commission, to head which he appointed Fr. Andriy Korchahin (head of the Commission on Questions of Evangelization). To the complement of the working group entered the steward of the Archeparchy of Lviv, Fr. Volodymyr Onys’kiv, the synkellos (chancellor) in matters of monasticism Fr. Vitaliy Dutkevych, OSBM,  military chaplain Fr. Vasyl Tuzyak, and the director of the catechetical center of the Lviv Archeparchy, Sister Melaniya Sydoryk, SSMI. The Council will begin with a pontifical Liturgy in the Church of Holy Spirit Seminary in Lviv. After the Liturgy, the greeting and introductory word will be pronounced by Archbishop Ihor. The working session of the Council will begin consequently. The theme «Recognition of the signs of the times is an important factor in the evangelization process in Ukraine» will be heard in the lecture of doctor of theology Fr. Lubomyr Rzhyskyj. After questions and answers, military chaplain Fr. Vasyl Tuzyak will talk about “Preaching the Gospel in the ranks of the Ukrainian army.” The reader of a supplementary report will be a military officer, Major Ruslan Koval'chuk. Student chaplain Fr. Bohdan Hrushevskyj will lecture on the theme «The Gospel and youth.» In the program of the day are lectures of Mikhail Prysiazhnyj, associate professor, candidate of philological sciences, dean of the Faculty of Journalism at Ivan Franko National University; a reader of a supplementary report will be Deacon Pavlo Drozdyak. After lunch the Council will continue its work in groups the decisions of which will be brought to the general discussion and will be harmonized in the long-term plan of work of evangelization of the Lviv Archeparchy. The Council will be completed with a prayer service in gratitude to the Most Holy Mother of God.
