About the Forty-third session of the Synod of Bishops of the Kyiv and Halych Major Archbishopric of the UGCC

On February 18-19, 2009, in Lviv-Bryukhovychi took place the Forty-third session of the Synod of Bishops of the Kyiv and Halych Major Archbishopric of the UGCC. At the session meetings were present all 18 members of the Metropolitan Synod. The members of Synod accepted for consideration the implementation of decisions of the Forty-second session of the Metropolitan Synod in which, among the first term’s questions, was considered in the first reading a detailed plan (road map) of the development of the informational activity of our Church in Ukraine; about changes in the leadership of the official publication of the Kyiv and Halych Major Archbishopric "Herald of the Kyiv and Halych Major Archbishopric of the UGCC," and about the previous results of the audit of church-wide structures, which at the implementation of the decision of the Patriarchal Synod were conducted by independent specialists-experts. Among a bloc of economic questions a lecture about the activity of the pension fund Pokrova (Protection) was heard, as were realizable measures for its popularization and planned measures for its subsequent stable development. Also discussed was the question of the participation of the Church in countering the spread of AIDS. In addition, the question about the festive proclamation of Blessed Omelyan Kowcz, Priest and Martyr, as the patron saint of pastors of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, which will begin on Bright Saturday, April 25, 2009, in Kyiv, was considered. Also examined were questions on the construction of the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv. It was decided to conduct the next, Forty-fourth, session of the Metropolitan Synod in April 2009.
