Existence of Ukrainian statehood is as irrevocable as the resurrection of Christ, whether you like it or not, - Head of the UGCC

Today God tells us that everyone who exalts himself will be humbled. We know that You, God, catch the mighty of this world by the illusion of their power and bring down them from their thrones, and exalt your children, your humble ones, said His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the UGCC to the faithful in his homily at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv.

According to him, the whole civilized world is closely watching Ukraine today. Many consider us in great danger, and Kyiv, Ukraine - a dangerous place on earth, from where citizens and diplomats of foreign countries are being withdrawn.

What our prayer has to be these days? The Head of the UGCC reminds us of celebrating the 35th anniversary since apparitions in Hrushiv village.

“Maybe some of you remember that in those dark days of the Soviet Union, the Mother of God came to our people in Hrushiv, a small village near Drohobych. And today we call this revelation the proclamation of our freedom. Then the Blessed Virgin Mary seemed to reveal to us God's plan for Ukraine - the empire of evil would fall apart. And it would not be about the work of man, but the work of God”, the preacher told.

The Major Archbishop also recalled that this week on February 17, we will celebrate the 130th anniversary of the birth of Patriarch Josyf Slipyj, a confessor of faith, a prisoner of Stalin's concentration camps. Patriarch Joseph was the first to tell the world about Ukraine which paid great sacrifices for its desire to be free. "Mountains of corpses and rivers of blood," said Patriarch Josyf Slipyj about our lands in front of the mighty of this world.

The Head of the Church noted that the resurrection of our Church became like a stone which smashed colossus on clay feet and the Soviet Union, the prison of nations fell apart. And it all happened due to God’s power only.

“We remember how Ukraine resurrected due to the power of God's grace, restored its statehood and its unity for which whole generations of our predecessors were fighting for. And we know it was God's work. Staying here in our Patriarchal Cathedral today we are asking You, Lord, despite all our sins and merits, to preserve freedom for us today as You did it 35 years ago. Defend our people and our Ukraine. Do not consider our sinfulness or righteousness, but do look at holiness of our martyr-Church, to your people You came to safe”, the Head of the UGCC asked the Lord for.
