We see that some new life is being born in Ukraine. That the cross of the Lord, on which Christ, from His life-giving side, gushed blood and water for the world - is the source of eternal life pulsating among us today. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, said in his daily address on the 32nd day of the Russian war against Ukraine.

“A new world will emerge through Ukraine. A world where there will be no more evil. A world where evil will be defeated. A world where a person will feel worthy and human life will be respected,” the Primate added.

“Yesterday, the peaceful city of Lviv was subjected to a tragic attack. And every time a missile hits a peaceful city, there is a feeling that this is another nail in the body of Ukraine. Ukraine is being crucified,” stated His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

According to the spiritual leader, Ukraine is experiencing its own Calvary, a time of great pain. A time when the Ukrainian people are asking God and themselves: “Why? What is the sense of human suffering? Where do we get the strength to see the Light of God’s wisdom amidst the madness of war?”

This Sunday, which according to the Julian calendar is the third Sunday of Lent, the Church of Christ raises God’s reward of the Holy and Life-giving Cross of the Lord before our eyes. We call this day – the Sunday of the Veneration of the Holy Cross.

“Gazing upon Our Savior crucified on the cross, we find some answers to these questions. Today Christ is being crucified again, together with Ukraine. By uniting the suffering and torment which we are experiencing today in Ukraine, with the suffering of the crucified Christ, we find the key to understanding,” explained the Head of the Church.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav sincerely thanked all those who, together with the people of Ukraine, derive the meaning of a new life from the sufferings we are experiencing now, and are in solidarity with us.

He thanked the Mayor of London and all the people of North Albion for taking to the streets to show their solidarity with Ukraine yesterday, at the request of our President.

“I want to thank all those who, feeling the pain of Ukraine, know how to give birth to a new life where you live, where you struggle, where you build your life. Let it be repeated in the capitals of countries around the globe,” the Primate declared.
