As our prayer tradition teaches us, we begin all our prayers with gratitude. First of all, I would like to thank Pope Francis for listening to our request and calling on the whole world to pray for peace in Ukraine on this day, the Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church His Beatitude Sviatoslav said on Wednesday, January 26, at the end of the prayer for peace in the world and particularly in Ukraine.

The Head of the Church called this event an unprecedented one in the spiritual life of our Church.

We embraced the children of our Church in prayer all over the globe. We stayed in a prayer vigil that started in Kyiv, continued in Melbourne (Australia) then moved to other continents - Brazil, North America, the United States and Canada.

We united in the prayer in Zarvanytsia. We said our prayers in St. George's Cathedral and in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk at the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. We prayed together in the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Drohobych.

We heard the prayers of our soldiers and volunteers in Kramatorsk, a city that has already survived occupation and liberation, in a wooden church with traces of hostile fire in its dome.

We heard the prayers of our soldiers who flared up hope in our hearts. We prayed with brothers of the Latin Church.

The Head of the Church thanked the representatives of other Churches and religious denominations who joined this prayer in various cities and temples around the world. The Jews of Ukraine also prayed together.

“We believe that God will hear this our prayer and we will receive according to our pleadings”, the Head of the UGCC said.
