Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred are commemorated in Ukraine on February 20. On this occasion, at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv, His Beatitude Sviatoslav celebrated a requiem service at the end of the Divine Liturgy.

Bishop Yosyf Milyan co-served with the Head of the Church. In his homily during the Liturgy, the Head of the UGCC noted that the Revolution of Dignity is a special moment in the history of Ukraine, which was marked by the greatest victims on the Maidan. “The voice of the blood of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred calls to heaven from the squares of our glorious God-beloved Kyiv.

Let us listen to their voice today and be sure that the direct way towards freedom which that voice suggests is the way our Heavenly Father wants to lead us, holding in his arms”, His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasised. Regarding the week of social service, which lasts from the Sunday of the Prodigal Son to the Meatfare Sunday, the Head of the Church called to remember those who especially need God’s affection and be those hands of God’s mercy concerning our neighbors.

“Especially, I am asking you to remember the relatives of the Heroes of the Heavenly Hundred, since today they need national respect and attention. Some of them are present in our cathedral. Above all, I want to pay my honor and respect to them today, - said the Head of the Church and added: - Today we remember in prayers all those who were wounded on the Maidan, in soul or in body, who need attention and support from the community of Christ, our people”.
