Father and Head of UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav on the Feast of the Presentation of Our Lord entrusted to the monastery of the Studite Order in Obukhiv, an icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary with the date and signature of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky.

There are two icons of the Virgin Mary with a signature of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky which in 1914 he presented two priests as a sign he remained alive, while yet imprisoned in Kursk.

One of the icons was signed for Fr. Ivan Aleksevych, another for Fr. Myron Hornykevych.

Those icons went different ways. One happened to be obtained by His Beatitude Sviatoslav and became the basis of his panagia. The other one has remained in the Hornykevych family in Austria to this day.

Recently the Hornykevych family decided to present their icon to UGCC. They had only one request – grant an opportunity for believers to venerate it.

The family asked the Head of UGCC to decide on his own where this icon should reside.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav made the decision to give this icon to the monastery of the Studite Order of UGCC in Obukhiv. Thereby, an interesting event occurred – two icons of the Virgin Mary with the signature of Metropolitan Sheptytsky from 1914 in Kursk, met on 15th of February in Obukhiv, Kyiv region.
