This conference is a part of a plan for our Church scientific researches. A few years ago me and a former protohegumen of Basilian monks in Ukraine f-r Panteleimon Salamakha created a group of scientists who were put a task – to start a deep and professional studying of Kyiv Metropoly history. Even within the UGCC the history of the Union Church outside Galicia is little known.

That is how the Head and Father of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav started a scientific conference on behalf of the 300th anniversary of Zhytomyr Union (1715) “Right-bank Ukraine in the XVII – XVIII centuries” in the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv.

The organizers of the conference are: National University of “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy”, the UGCC Kyiv Archeparchy and Ukrainian Catholic University.

The Head of the Church thanked prof. Ihor Skochylias, dean of UCU’s Humanities Faculty for leading this scientific project, who continues running a long line of conferences about Kyiv Christianity and union tradition. The Head of the Church thinks that this jubilee date of forming Zhytomyr Union in Radomyshl (Zhytomyr region) has a special meaning. “On the one hand it means that we proceed with searching the best methodology to find sources of studying the history of Church in the right-bank Ukraine, said he. – And on the other side, in today’s Ukrainian society arise claims for the church unity. So an experience of former generations is life-giving to us.”

At the end, His Beatitude Sviatoslav greeted all participants of the conference with this event: “Wishing all of you a deep, intellectual and spiritual experience of everything that will be heard today. May God help us to open new pages of history of our Church, so to enrich our present time with it”.
