His Beatitude Sviatoslav: “One should be ready for economic sacrifices”

The Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk) in the Pastoral Epistle on the occasion of the beginning of Great Lent, urged Ukrainians to be ready for complex economic times.

“We may be facing difficult times. We should be prepared for economic sacrifices that will demand patience and perseverance from us.  Let us learn to carry our daily cross with fortitude and without complaints, even when there is something vital that is missing. May this be our Lent -- a Lent which provides hope for a better future for Ukraine, which after the winter will enter its spring and will bear fruit,” wrote UGCC Prelate to the faithful and all people of goodwill.

The Head of the Church argues that we “should struggle for truth and justice, affirming our God-given dignity of every single person, preserve peace in our souls and our land, enhancing reconciliation  and  repentance, assisting the healing  of spiritual and physical wounds, experienced by Ukrainians.”  “We appeal to all for commitment in work and prayer, in fasting and mercy,” emphasized His Beatitude Sviatoslav at the conclusion of his Pastoral Epistle on the occasion of Great Lent.
