In Madrid the Head of the UGCC visited the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Spain and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs

His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Head of the UGCC in the official pastoral visit to Spain after a visit to the faithful of the Greek Catholic Church in Alicante and Torrevieja, on 9 July, arrived in Madrid. At Atocha station he was met by young people, parishioners and chaplaincy of Madrid Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Buen Suceso).

On 10 July His Beatitude Sviatoslav, accompanied by Bishop Dionisiy (Liakhovych), Apostolic Visitator for Ukrainian in Italy and Spain, Fr Ivan Lypka and Fr Volodymyr Neilyuk, Ukrainian chaplains of Madrid Church of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary (Buen Suceso), and Yuriy Chopyk, the head of the Ukrainian Community of Spain for Rights, Honour and Dignity, visited the Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of Spain, where they had a meeting with the Ambassador of Ukraine in Spain Mr. Sergiy Pogoreltsev, the Counsellor for Political Affairs Mr. Vyacheslav Baranov and First Secretary for European Affairs Mr. Yevgen Shendrikov.

During the conversation, the Head of the UGCC stressed the importance of His official visit to Madrid, not only in pastoral terms, but also in strengthening the relations between the Catholic Church in Spain and the UGCC, and in great need to express the importance of assistance to Ukraine at the societal level all over the world. The Ambassador of Ukraine in Spain Sergiy Oleksiyovych Pogoreltsev marked His Beatitude Sviatoslav’s high effort in His international visits that help the leaders of world states treat more favourably Ukrainian issue and help at states level and international organizations to support Ukraine in its struggle and a close cooperation with our country.

After the meeting at the Embassy of Ukraine S.O.Pogoreltsev and His Beatitude Sviatoslav, accompanied by Bishop Dionisiy, Fr. Ivan Lypka and Yevgen Shendrikov met with the Director of the Department for External Policy and Safety of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr. Enrique Mora and other representatives of the Department for Eastern Europe and Asia Department of the Foreign Ministry of Spain and the Department of interconfessional relations of the Ministry of Justice.

Having thanked for the support of Ministry of Ukraine His Beatitude Sviatoslav reported on the real situation in Ukraine. The interlocutors agreed that Ukraine was the victim of unjust aggression of a neighbouring state, which clearly violates international law, which is a threat to the world peace. It was noted the consolidation and unity of all faiths in the protection of the homeland and help for the victims. By the end His Beatitude thanked Spain for its support of Ukraine in international institutions.
