The first word of the Catechism is “we” not “me”, “you”, “he”, “she” but “we” as God’s people and the Church of Christ, walking together with Christ. The Father and Head of the UGCC His Beatitude Sviatoslav emphasized while introducing the Youth Catechism “We walk with Christ”. The solemn proclamation was held on Monday, June 28, 2021 in the conference hall of Lviv Holy Spirit Seminary.

“This is unique marvelous news for Ukraine and the world, and for youth in particular”, started the Head of the UGCC.

“To proclaim the Catechism our Church has been working on for eight years is a big joy and great honor to me”, underlined the Father and Head of the UGCC and recalled an event dedicated to the solemn proclamation of the Catechism “Christ Our Pascha”.

The Head of the Church said that at that moment and it was ten years ago emerged an extreme necessity to create a separate Catechism for youth. As for him the process of writing it was preceded by a phase of listening to modern youth encultured by SMS, Twitter or Tik-Tok, and that listening was based on a series of meetings.

Generally the Catechism was being designed by the Patriarchal Catechetical Commission and the Youth Commission of the UGCC.

The Head of the UGCC told that an adventure of a young person with their spiritual father throughout the Catechism which consists of three chapters “How do we believe”, “How do we hope” and “How do we hope” is formed around four churches – the symbols and stages of Church development. These are St. Sophia Cathedral, St. George Cathedral, St. Sophia Cathedral in Rome and the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv.

Interestingly, the Synod of Bishops completely confirmed the Catechism accordingly to all canonical requirements during an online meeting of the Synod, the form of communication which is especially popular among our young people.

Consequently, His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked everyone who was working and praying for this feast to come. Later the authors of the Catechism received the Patriarchal certificates.
