Seminarians from the Ivano-Frankivsk Spiritual Seminary visited penitentiary institutions

During Holy Cross week (March 22, 2012), seminarians of the Ivano-Frankivsk Spiritual Seminary UGCC led a Stations of the Cross prayer for women in the Chernihiv Correctional Colony and for students of the Chernihiv Law College of the State Penal Service of Ukraine. The trip of the seminarian music group Gloria, consisting of monks Mykola Mudryk, Ihor Sachkiv, Yuriy Boyechko, Vitaliy Palamar and Vasyl Shtanhreta, took place with the blessing of the rector of the Ivan-Frankivsk Spiritual Seminary, Archpriest Oleksandr Levytsky, in cooperation with the Auxilliary Servic for Imprisoned Women at the Church of St. Mykola the Miracle Worker at Askold’s Grave.

From Kyiv the volunteers brought the traditional humanitarian goods: sweets, clothing, personal hygiene items and medicine.  Volunteers participating in the prayer service were Anna Mushynska,    Arina  Maslov, Rev. Kostiatyn Panteley, Archmonk Vitaliy Kotyk and Sister Oksana Pelekh, ChNI. “The Feast of 40 Sevastiysky Martyrs which fell on Holy Cross Week, right in the middle of Great Lent, provided the opportunity for spiritual rethinking of life and the deepening of faith by venerating the fourteen  Stations of the Cross  of Christ at Golgotha,” emphasized Heirarch Kostiantyn Panteley. Also noteworthy is the fact, that on March 16th at the invitation of Father Andriy Lemchuka, the group Gloria went to the town of Chortkiv and had the opportunity to visit the Chortkiv Penitentiary.
