The 60th session of UGCC Kyiv-Halych Major Archbishopric Synod of Bishops took place on May 15-16, 2013 in the Marian Spiritual Center – Zarvanytsia. All Greek-Catholic bishops placed in Ukraine attended.

During this session the Synod continued to work on the details of the events marking the Year of Faith in the Major-Archbishopric, the 1025th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus-Ukraine and the organization of the All-Church Pilgrimage to the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ in Kyiv on August 17-18, 2013.

The Synod finalized and approved a plan of events to mark the Year of the  Deaconate, prepared by its Organizing Committee headed by  Bishop Mykola  (Simkaylo), as well as Standard Positions of the Eparchial Commission on Matters of Primary Education, presented by its head, Sr. Khrystofora Bushtyn, SNDM,

As part of the events to mark the current Year of Faith, the issue of conducting a joint prayer with the Holy Father in all the churches of UGCC Kyiv-Halych Major Archbishopric, on Sunday June 2, 2013 was discussed and approved.

The Synod fathers discussed the preparation for the Joint Church Pilgrimage to Stradcha, during which there will be a solemn announcement of Blessed Martyr Volodymyr Pryima as the Patron of the Laity of the UGCC. Also Bishop Lavrentiy Sosnovych from Canada reviewed the beneficial work of the Knights of Columbus in Ukraine.

Synod of UGCC Kyiv-Halych Major Archbishopric contemplated the issue of commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Volyn tragedy and ratified an appropriate decision.

On the financial side, a report was offered on the activity of the UGCC-created Pokrova Non-governmental Pension Fund.  The need to teach the faithful basic principles of finances and economics was highlighted and then other Church’s financial and household items were discussed.

Rev. Petro Rak, head of Department of Church Commissions reported on their activities and their recent publications.  Rev. Rostyslav Pendiuk, head of UGCC Commission on Matters of Youth, reported on its activities and Rev. Andriy Login, covered the activities of UGCC Commission on Pastoral Health Care, which he heads.

The 61st session of the Synod of Bishops of UGCC Kyiv-Halych Major Archbishopric will be held in November 2013.
