The human being, who carries spiritual life through the prism of holy scripture, tries to find the road which leads to unity with God. On this way he/she aims to grasp the meaning of life and vocation. Answers to these eternal questions are given by His Excellency Archbishop Ihor (Voznyak) in a book recently released by the Svichado [Beacon] publishing house: «The word of the Lord alive and active: Sermons.» In the book are collected sermons for the whole liturgical year. The purpose of this small work is to help the reader, and in particular the person who likes to reflect, to go deeper into the content of holy scripture. Saint John the Theologian writes: “Blessed is the one who reads aloud and blessed are those who listen to this prophetic message and heed what is written in it, for the appointed time is near.” (Rev: 1:3) The idea and direction of the work touch the human being and show him/her the way to reach perfection in spiritual life. For this purpose there are different means and possibilities. One of them is sincere repentance for sins and frequent reception of the holy Eucharist. Other means are prayer, fasting, and charitable works, which help the human being enter a strong state of spirit, to become one’s own self, a free person who is subject to the divine majesty. The one who starts on such a road has to look at his/her life and take care that spiritual exercises not become mundane. In fact, through them from the Lord changes come  for the better in the spiritual life of man.
