The Future of Europe Depends on Dialogue

On March 1, 2011 in Warsaw, Poland, a working ecumenical session of the group "Reconciliation in Europe” took place in the building of Polish ecumenical council. This is an endeavor of the Churches in Ukraine, Belarus, Poland and Germany.
The meeting was attended by Archbishop of Wrocław - Jeremiah (Polish Orthodox Church), Bishop Deputy - Pastor Andrew Hamburg (German Lutheran Church of Ukraine), pastor Iryneush Lucas (Evangelical-Augsburg Church of Poland), priest George Sanko (Roman Catholic Church in Belarus), vice-rector of the Theological Academy - Prof. V. Burega (Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Moscow Patriarchate), Prof. V. Konakh (ecumenical  council of Polish Orthodox Church). Rev. Dr. Ihor Shaban, chief of the UGCC Commission for promoting Christian unity, represented the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church in the meeting.
The main goal of the meeting was to sum up the activity of the Reconciliation Group in 2010, in addition to discussing plans for 2011. In September 2010 the Group held an international conference on migration issues in Central and Eastern Europe. This year the Group is planning to hold another conference in Minsk (Belarus). The Reconciliation Group has been working since 1996. It consists of official representatives of churches in Germany, Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. The aim of the group is to discuss important contemporary issues along with fostering cooperation in resolving social and religious problems in these countries respectively.
