The Head of the UGCC about the quarantine of the weekend: Jesus Christ wants to teach us something

We often do not understand the consequences of sin in our lives. Sometimes we don't even feel the pain when our conscience is hardened. But it is so important to open ourselves fully to that life-giving healing power of God, to allow ourselves to be touched by it. This conviction was expressed by His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, during a sermon on the 24th Sunday after the Descent of the Holy Spirit.

The Head of the Church noted that today we are in quarantine for the weekend. We cannot gather in large numbers in our temples. "But perhaps this is something that Christ wants to teach us. He tells us that mass gatherings are not enough. We need to be believers with a certain mood, who could allow God to touch upon them," said the Primate.

Finding God, who is the source of our life and resurrection and the source of our healing in the circumstances of this pandemic, is, according to the Head of the Church, extremely important.

"Therefore, when talking to public authorities, we emphasize that even in such circumstances, a believer should have the right and opportunity to meet his God through access to the priest, access to the Holy Sacraments," says His Beatitude Sviatoslav.

"Because church and religious life is not only holidays, crowds and ceremonies. It is also an opportunity for rapprochement between God and man, an opportunity for the Church to fulfill her pastoral duties by accompanying a person in the present circumstances," said the Head of the UGCC.

He also assured of prayers for the doctors. “As we hear about Christ the Physician today, we especially pray for our physicians to make their hands life-giving ones; that through their knowledge and professional service, the Lord God Himself may come to those who need Him - the weak, the sick, the dying - and open to every person the possibility of health, life, and resurrection. That is why Christ says, ‘Do not be afraid!’” - wished the Primate.
