The Head of the UGCC presented the command of the Ukrainian Navy the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help

August 4, 2021 His Beatitude Sviatoslav, the Father and Head of the UGCC met with a commander of the Ukrainian Navy rear admiral Oleksiy Neizhpapa. The meeting took place in Odesa at the premises of the Ukrainian Naval Forces. During the meeting the Head of the Church passed to the Naval Forces an authentic list of the icon of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, an original copy of what is housed in the Church of St Alphonsus Liguori in Rome.

The Head of the UGCC assured the commander in global prayer support of navy men of the Ukrainian Naval Forces on behalf of the faithful of the UGCC.

“In the person of our Lady of Perpetual Help the Ukrainian Naval Forces always receive loyal support and a tireless advocate before God’s altar. We, being Christ’s Church in Ukraine, are ready to grant necessary spiritual help to our sailors, naval officers through our chaplains together with other Ukrainian Churches”, mentioned the Major Archbishop.

The commander of the Ukrainian Naval Forces expressed his gratitude for the priceless spiritual gift, an icon, and the initiative introduced by His Beatitude Sviatoslav to celebrate the Day of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on the same day when Church celebrates the feast of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. He also marked the role of a chaplain in satisfying spiritual needs of Ukrainian military men and their families, as well as providing special care for the wounded and families of the deceased.
