The Head of UGCC: The Christian family must be the space of hope and light

Sunday, 02 June 2019, 20:43
"Now the space of hope and light for the modern man must be a Christian family. For it is the father and mother that the Almighty wants to make His co-workers in the sacrament of creating a new man, whom He calls for light, creates him for light," emphasized the Head and Father of the UGCC, His Beatitude Sviatoslav in his sermon to the faithful during the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at the Patriarchal Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ, on Sunday of the Man Born Blind, June 2, 2019.

According to the Primate, we often need the light of God. Therefore, one must ask himself where is the space and place where Christ most wants to shine his light today.

"To be enlightened (see) - means to be touched by God himself. The consequence of such God's touch is renewal, rebirth, making a new creation, and to see means to believe," said the bishop.

According to him, the evangelist John uses his word in various ways to show us who God is and what is done with a man who is open to God, who meets Him and believes. The Lord is light and there is no darkness in Him.

Moreover, He created each of us capable of perceiving the light of eternal life. However, we also see a man born in the dark, because the Gospel tells us about a blind man who had never seen light. Without seeing the light, he lived in the dark, he was cast aside to the margins of society, he was a beggar, did not know himself and did not understand how to live in the world.

It is worth noting that it is the Son of God with His disciples Who makes the first step towards, because to enlighten - means to re-create a person.

"Just as at the beginning of the creation of the universe, the Lord took dust from the earth and created man, so too, the Savior makes the same gesture - takes dust from the earth, anoints the eyes of this man and sends him to wash," says the spiritual leader of the Greek Catholics. - "We can also see in this gesture the act of creation of a new person, the restoration of the ability to perceive light, the moment of transition from life in the dark to the life full of divine light and grace."

At the end of the Liturgy, His Beatitude Sviatoslav also greeted  the Congregation of the Incarnate Word for the pilgrimage of gratitude, because this year this Order celebrates 35 years since its creation. Charisma of the community is the evangelization of culture.
