The Ukrainian Catholic University calls on the country's leaders not to cancel External Independent Evaluation (ZNO)

In social networks and on the Internet in general, there are more and more alarming fears that this year's ZNO may be canceled. This situation of uncertainty, according to UCU representatives, is harmful for everyone.

That is why the UCU administration, on behalf of the entire university community, appealed to the country's leadership to assure the citizens of Ukraine as soon as possible that the External Independent Evaluation will be conducted according to the schedule approved by the Ministry of Education and will begin on June 25 this year. It is too late to make a decision on June 22.

“We share the conviction that caring for human health and respecting human life are important responsibilities of both the state and society as a whole.  Therefore, we are aware of all the risks to the health of ZNO participants that may arise from the spread of COVID-19.  But we also believe that teachers and school leavers, who are themselves interested in both maintaining their own health and conducting external examinations, will be as disciplined as possible and will strictly follow the rules and procedures developed by the authorities.”

The UCU administration calls the introduction of External Independent Evaluation in Ukraine the most successful education reform since obtaining independence.  The University is convinced that ZNO has allowed talented and hard-working students, regardless of property or social status, to enter the best educational institutions for the most prestigious specialties.

"Last year, the President of Ukraine and his team promised to ruthlessly fight corruption and establish justice in Ukraine.  The demise of External Independent Evaluation will take us back to the days of ‘telephone law,' instead of adhering to truth and academic integrity.  Therefore, it is unacceptable to destroy the progress already made," warn the university leaders. They express hope that the state leadership will listen to their warnings and will not allow the education system to be pushed into the corrupt past under the guise of caring for people's health.
