“In the name of Our Church, I want to express great anxiety about the violence which is spreading throughout Ukraine towards journalists and civil activists. The right to know and speak the truth is one of the fundamental rights of a free person,” stated His Beatitude Sviatoslav (Shevchuk), UGCC Head, in commenting on the latest events including an attack on the well-known journalist Tetiana Chornovol.

“I want to express my solidarity with those who today in Ukraine do not fear to speak the truth.  Christ said: And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free (John 8: 32).  I expect that the right to speak the truth will continue to be the right of free citizens of Ukraine.  Let us remember the Lord’s words:  Blessed are they who are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven (Matthew 5:10), emphasized UGCC Prelate.
