Thirty years ago Ukrainian independence did not emerge from nowhere like some mere coincidence: Ukrainian statehood has a thousand-year history. The Head of the UGCC emphasized going live “Zhyve TV”.

The Major Archbishop says that a modern Ukrainian State is a fruit of movement of entire generations throughout a millennium.

The Head of the UGCC pointed out a moment of our national memory, which was aimed to be stolen. “It pushed us to the extremity of not trusting our state and pay attention not to overlap personal interests with state ones. This is our vice which follows us today”, mentioned the Father and Head of the Church.

His Beatitude Sviatoslav spoke about three important aspects which, as for him, we ought to realize as celebrating the 30^th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence.

The first one concerns necessity of remembering our heroes who gave up their lives for defending and preserving Ukrainian independence.

The second essential thing is about realizing responsibility of our own country. “We all have to be aware that no one from the outside will come and build us a decent Ukrainian State. The source of authority in Ukraine is people. But people must control the authority they are electing. People must treat their freedom responsibly because it has a direct connection with responsibility itself”.

The third feature of the 30^th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence lays in collapse of the Soviet Union, when we felt free and opened our borders. Here we face a challenge of whether to stay home or move overseas.

Apart from that, the Head of the UGCC stated that he welcomes language law adopted by the Ukrainian parliament and assumes that it is one of the essential milestones in forming our independent state.
