The Head of the UGCC participated in the presentation of the Reims Gospel

On October 22, 2019, the first full facsimile edition of the Reims Gospel in Ukraine was presented at the Sophia Cathedral. His Beatitude Sviatoslav, Father and Head of the UGCC participated in the event.

The project of a complete facsimile edition of the unique manuscript of the Reims Gospel, stored in the Reims Municipal Library (France), was implemented by the National Reserve "St. Sophia" in cooperation with the publishing house "Horobets'."

The presented facsimile consists of two parts. The first part reproduces the pages of the manuscript, that is, the form in which the book is kept today. The second part contains the results of a modern study of the manuscript by Ukrainian scholars.

"Today, one of my dreams in my life has come true - to return to Ukraine the most ancient manuscript, directly related to Kyiv, to the Sophia Cathedral, to the names of prominent historical figures. The Reims Gospel is the oldest manuscript in the library of Yaroslav the Wise, linked to the history of our country," said Nelia Kukovalska, Director General of the National Reserve "St. Sophia."

His Beatitude Sviatoslav thanked Nelia Kukovalska for all the initiatives she and the National Reserve "St. Sophia" are implementing to study and preserve our historical heritage. He also assured of the full support on the part of the UGCC for the planned presentations of the Reims Gospel in Paris and Sanlis.
